Nguyen Van Thanh Son

Family circumstances:

Son's family situation is very difficult, his father is a builder, the job is unstable, seasonal, so sometimes there are jobs. Son's mother has no job and stays at home to take care of her sick child. The family economy can only depend on the meager salary of the father.

Status:
- Son has severe genital malformations with manifestations such as open abdominal wall, partial bladder exposure, no anus, and no external genitalia. In medicine, this disease is called “exposed slime”. From birth, the baby urinates and defecates in the same way, and the waste all exits through the same small opening in the abdominal wall.

- In 2007, Son had his first surgery in Ho Chi Minh City to separate the urinary tract and the bowels by creating a "false anus" on the left side abdominal wall and bringing the bladder into the abdomen. However, the results of the surgery were not as expected - not long after, the baby's bladder was exposed outside the abdominal wall.

- After 2 years, the boy had a second surgery. This time, the doctors operated to return the anus to its natural position on the body, but the result was that the boy had urination and Incontinence, causing the new anus to always be red, the boy also did not have an inguinal skeleton to hold the bladder in his body. Moreover, Son also had a birth defect in the skeleton, so he could not walk normally like the others.

With the program Thien Nhan and Friends:

- In 2011, Dr. Roberto DeCastro first examined Son and scheduled surgery for the boy in June 2012. The result of the first surgery was that Son was reconstructed by the doctors. In June 2014, Son had his second surgery with the presence of both Dr. Roberto DeCastro, Dr. Emilio Merlini, Dr. Aurelie Chiappinelli  Italy and Dr. Dinh Tue  Houston, USA at Children's Hospital 2 Ho Chi Minh City. During the 10-hour surgery, the doctors closed the abdominal wall and bladder wall for Son. After restoring the abdominal wall structure and conducting a re-examination for Son - in June 2016, Dr. Roberto DeCastro put Son on the list for surgery in November of that year at Children's Hospital 2 Ho Chi Minh City.

- In November 2016, the doctors continued to perform surgery on Son, separating the digestive tract to help Son gradually control his personal hygiene. Son was re-examined in June 2017 and is still recovering.
